Magento ver1.9.1ではデフォルトでシステムログを出力しない設定になっています。
常にログを吐く設定にしておくと表示スピードの遅延やサーバのディスク容量を圧迫してしまうので、当然の措置です。
開発時や問題発生時はシステムログを出すように設定する必要がありますが、その方法はこちらです。
Sytem -> Developer ->Log Settingへ進み EnabledをYESにします。
すると/ROOT/ver/log/system.logというファイルができ、ログが書き込まれます。
