Magentoとは？
MagentoとはPHPベースのE-commerce専用パッケージです。日本ではあまり知られていませんが、ブログならWordPress,E-commerceならMagentoというくらい有名なオープンソースのパッケージです。
プログラムを入手して自分でホスティングするいわゆるダウンロード型のパッケージではEC-CUBEが有名ですが、それはあくまでも日本の話です。
日本語文献の少なさからマイナーイメージがあるMagentoですが、世界に目をむけるとMagentoは超がつくほど有名なパッケージであり、今、最も勢いのあるE-commerceパッケージといえるでしょう。

Magentoでは大きくコミュニティ版とエンタープライズ版があり、コミュニティ版は無料です。

こちらは開発者ではないけれどもMagentoの概要を手っ取り早く知りたいという方向け。このあたりの情報は基本、ネットに落ちているので、効率を優先したい人はどうぞ。
必要スペック
